A REVAMPED Mediterranean hole in the wall, your tastebuds never new existed....
A REVAMPED Hole in the Wall just stepped out of the shadows, do your tastebuds a favor and visit them ASAP. Formerly known as Green Valley Market, the now "GREEN VALLEY - Mediterranean Street Food" concept seems to stick to the original marketplace theme. Imagine enjoying a BBQ MIX PLATE of Kebobs under bohemian light fixtures dangling on threads of rope, while aromatic plants who have colonized all areas of the dining area lay above and around you. Where has this place been? The lengthy yelp reviews of glowing 5 star reviews shows that there is a fan following, however, why so disguised? Shawarmas, Hummus, Falafel, Tabbouleh, Baba Ghanoush, KEBOBS all in San Bruno with no true awareness by the general public.
However, as soon as you enter you notice tables filled with colorful assortments of at least 10 different sides to accompany your glorious main dish, such as the Chicken, Lamb or Beef Kebobs. The kebobs which seem to be the fan favorite, rightfully so, are cooked 4 inches above BLAZING ALMOND TREE CHARCOAL BLOCKS. The aromatic flavors against your meat create an amazing Maillard reaction, which allows the caramelization to entrap all the charcoal flavor. I was blown away by the tenderness of the chicken and Lamb, (saving the steak option for next time), along with the charcoal cooked veggies that come along. However, no meat can taste good, without having an incredible side to go along with it, which is why Green Valley offers TWO sides.
I opted for the Tabbouleh and Hummus. Immediately the tabboulehs parsley/lemony fragrance hit my nose & I knew just then, I fell in love with the BEST Middle Eastern Food in the peninsula. I dove into the tabbouleh, while tearing the warm pita bread to dip into my hummus. A miraculous job by the kitchen staff here at Green valley for creating a fresh, fragrant and above all authentic meal for me. My lunch & dinner days will be spent heavily here.
